Complete Cast Announced for Spring Awakening at the Atlantic

Complete casting has been announced for the Atlantic Theater Company world premiere of Spring Awakening. The musical will feature Frank Wood, Mary McCann, John Gallagher Jr., Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele.

Wood won a Tony Award for his performance in Side Man, in which he also starred in London's West End and Australia. McCann is a founding member of the Atlantic Theater Company, where she has appeared in numerous shows. Gallagher Jr. is currently appearing on Broadway in Rabbit Hole. Groff has appeared on the Great White Way in In My Life. Michele's Broadway credits include Fiddler On The Roof, Ragtime and Les Miserables.

Based on Frank Wedekind's masterpiece The Awakening of Spring, Spring Awakening depicts a dozen young people and how they make their way through the thrilling, complicated, confusing and mysterious time of their sexual awakening. The story centers around a brilliant young student named Melchior Groff, his troubled friend Moritz Gallagher Jr. and Wendla Michele, a beautiful young girl on the verge of womanhood. The show features music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater.

Spring Awakening, directed by Michael Mayer, is scheduled to begin performances at the Atlantic Theater on May 18 and open there on June 15. In addition to the stars named above, the cast will include Christopher Clark, Michele Cobham, Lilli Cooper, Chris Garneau, Jared Goldstein, Brian Johnson, Lauren Pritchard, Jonathan B. Wright and Remy Zaken.
